You're a Home Gym Baddie

You know you want to get stronger and get fit but you’re allergic to going to the gym. The bros. The smell. The overwhelming choices of machines and weights. You’d rather workout in the privacy of your own home.

I get it:

  • You’d rather spend time alone then be around gym bros & fit chicks

  • Your eyes roll just thinking about the inconsiderate or rude behavior that’s bound to pop up

  • Fighting for the specific piece of equipment you need when the clock is ticking

  • Broken equipment that might be fixed soon??

  • Smells, smells, smells

  • Questionably curated music on the loudspeakers and distracting tvs

  • There’s the sweat factor – do those little wipes actually do anything?!

  • And then there’s the free weights section, it’s in front of a massive mirror so you can’t hide. It feels like everyone is watching your every move [unless they’re a creep, they’re probably not watching you, but it sure feels intense]

  • You gotta travel to the gym, that takes time, energy and planning

  • Need to prepare a gym bag with essentials

  • If you go to work after/before workouts, then showering and a change of clothes is something to manage

If this is you, I’m here to tell you that building a home gym is the answer. And it’s much more doable (and affordable) than you might think.

Here’s everything you need for a complete home gym:

Hex bar for heavy deadlifts or squats $58 or a Straight barbell (deadlift, squat, overhead press, bench press, landmine, and more)$59

Adjustable Multipurpose rack (if you get a straight barbell) (if you get a straight barbell) $169

TOTAL: $149 - $594

For reference, that is the cost of only 2 months of membership at moderate to higher-end fitness centers like Equinox. For the price of 2 months, you get years and decades of use out of your equipment.

Even more good news?

You don’t need to get all of this right away. Start with a few dumbbells and a pull-up bar ($149 referenced above). Then add a hex bar and some plates later. Buy a new piece of equipment once every few months. Build as you go.

Not to mention, $594 is only the total if you’re buying brand new. Keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace for some used equipment.  Many of my clients purchased super affordable and well-cared for dumbbells and kettlebells on FB. It’s a solid option for where to purchase things if you want to save some money, or just don’t like Amazon.

If you hate the public gym and you’re itching for a home gym, there is a way. There’s always a way.

I’m here to tell you there are super fit people out there right now working out in their home gym and loving every single moment of it. You’re worth it, your health is worth it.
